Dear All

The message below has been circulated by Geoff Capelin the Postgraduate Advocate at UNSW. It reflects a serious attack on NTEU members at UNSW, which has unfortunately been launched by a supposedly left-wing student association.

Chris

President of UNSW Student Guild announces full support for Workchoices and AWAs

(please distribute as widely as possible)

UNSW Student Guild President, Xavier O'Halloran today announced his full support for Workchoices and AWA's.

He told staff today that he was in full support of Workchoices and that AWA's would be the only form of agreement in the new student organisation at UNSW.

He also stated that he thought the whole workforce should be on AWA's and that giving current staff one days notice that they were to be made redundant as he has done today is entirely reasonable and in keeping with his philosophy of individual responsibility.

When queried why he had spent tens of thousands of dollars on legal advice to investigate cutting staff entitlements and implementing AWA's he responded by stating that AWA's give employers appropriate control over their staff.

He also stated that he did not believe that collective agreements were appropriate in Australia.

In addition, he indicated that the Student Guild would be fully supporting the implementation of AWA's for all academic staff at the University next year.

When confronted with the fact that the Howard government will be delighted with his position he responded:

"Well they won't know if you don't tell them"

Do you agree with Xavier O'Halloran? If not why not drop him a line and let him know what you think of his 'Workchoices/AWA' roll out on:

Yours Sincerely
