As part of this process we hope to visit a number of other institutions in order to discover what tools are already in use within the sector. Before we do so, we were hoping to establish a small reference table of background information. We would appreciate it if, when you get a spare minute, you could take the time to answer the following questions. If you would like a copy of the completed table, please indicate so in your return email. Q1) What Student Database do you use (eg Callista, Peoplesoft)? Q2) What is the database platform for the Student Database (eg SAP, Oracle, SQL Server)? Q3) What reporting tools do you use to extract/analyse your data (eg Discoverer, Holos, Business Objects, Analysis Services)? Q4) What year did your current student database go live? Q5) If we were hoping to visit your institution to view your system and discuss its pros and cons, who should we contact and how? Thanks for your time Kind Regards Lee Rowlands Institutional Research Analyst _____________________________________________ c/o Planning Unit Phone (03) 5227 8562 Level 4 Fax (03) 5227 8558 Waterfront Campus E-mail lrowland@deakin.edu.au Deakin University Room D4.209 Geelong, VIC, 3220 http://www.deakin.edu.au/planning_unit _____________________________________________ Important Notice: The contents of this e-mail transmission, including attachments, may be privileged and confidential. Hi all,
Does your institution remove Higher Degree Research (HDR) students from active enrolment/load when they submit their thesis ie whilst their thesis is under exam?
Or do your HDR students have recorded load up until their thesis is approved/accepted?

At the U of Melbourne they are deemed to be "registered" only, i.e. they are removed from active enrolment and incur no fees or load. They only become active again if they have to resubmit and do major rewrites. At this stage they are not course completions either so don't get reported until they have completed all requirements of the course
