[Muanet] Merger Consultation Process

In my email to all members yesterday I indicated that the Branch Committee
of Management saw one of its main tasks in relation to the merger
discussions to be to seek to ensure that the consultation process is full
and effective.

My current feeling is that whilst the formal channel for feedback on the Web
and via Email clearly exists and whilst the VC did promptly get out and hold
meetings with staff and whilst there doubtless are other forms of
consultation proceeding in various quarters of the University, I am less
than convinced that the totality of these processes is generating a full and
effective process.

However, having said that I am not at all sure what to propose as a way to
enhance this process? Perhaps those of us who are on this discussion list
can at least have an email discussion about how we might ensure that the
consultation is full and effective.

For example I have so far resisted calling a general meeting of members for
I am not sure that much could be gained from such a meeting at this time,
but, if members thought it would be productive we could:

a.. Arrange a members' meeting to facilitate some sharing of ideas and
information about the proposed merger
b.. Arrange a time and venue each week for interested members to meet to
share and develop ideas and information
c.. Use the discussion list to facilitate an interchange of ideas and
information
d.. Do all of these things
e.. Do nothing as yet and simply wait and see how the process proceeds

So what about sharing your thoughts on this with the other NTEU members who
are on this discussion list?
